geo-graphy

Más allá de las estrellas
se rinde la noche del acero.
cuando la menta se vuelve ajena.

Paloma Ferández Gomá

among the rocks and the sky we build
the rain/  the green valleys of the
leaves we long for.

with all my senses underneaththe skin
in solitudeI breathethe earth
the rain
embalms my lips.

the rivers /  time conceals the rivers
invisible pores of barren winters.

peeling off their blue the mountains stand tall
facing the pink moon in silence/the silence
of bleeding poetry
a heartbeat in every stone.

entre las rocas y el cielo construímos
la lluvia /  los puros valles de las
anheladas hojas.

y todos mis sentidos bajola piel
solitariarespirola tierra

the desert rose

The border is the blood clot in the river’s vein.
The border says ‘stop’ to the wind, but the wind speaks another
language, and keeps going.

Alberto Ríos

when you stop being an immigrant
who would you be when you stop
being the perfect one on the imperfect wall of alien names?

when I call you my rose and you welcome me with
arms full of roses and fragrances of human faces
your faces of rain and spring,

when rocks keep daunting with their barbwire and you
still holding your innocence between cracks of blood
still determined to adorn your faith with tomorrow’s wisdom,

when time and time again the aging scars
plot against decent life on one side of the border
while on the other side they indecently celebrate it,

my desert rose! you, water of emerald times!
no matter how high they keep building that wall
no matter how the deaf orchestra keeps playing its deafening crescendo
your womb brimming with free verse will refuse to
confine to the insane barbarism of the deserted words.

rosa del desierto

The border is the blood clot in the river’s vein.
The border says ‘stop’ to the wind, but the wind speaks another
language, and keeps going.

sketches for meditation

South
(my mother)
babel of fortunate blood and verse of the Mediterranean poem.

***

my homeland, my secret delight.
how silent is the parade between my sigh and your oblivion?

***

the same garden
rises to embrace the scent of blossoming orange
dropping its essence on my departed April.

***

amongst disguised alphabets i grew up
and i was able to unravel who I am with more than one name.
in each dwelling my name is solid.

***

man sets man on fire and wakes up.
between the shadows destiny will ride history
towards the infinite man.
without swords. without parchments.

Y es que aunque queméis el papel,
nunca quemaréis lo que contiene.

viñetas para soñar

Sur
